Ashleigh: Kate's love life

Ashleigh Brewer believes her Neighbours character Kate Ramsay had found "the one" in Detective Mark Brennan. But with Scott McGregor leaving the soap, she is going to have to look for love elsewhere.
Ashleigh reveals how she thinks Kate will cope, how much she will miss Scott off-screen too and who she'd like Kate to find love with instead.

Will Kate and Brennan get back together?

They both want to get back together but it's Mark's fault that they aren't able to move on from things that have kept them apart. They both have a lot of history, such as the lie that Kate told to protect Rebecca and then Mark does something which really hurts Kate, and this prevents them from moving forward.

Do you think Brennan is "the one" for Kate?

Yes definitely, they are supposed to be together. They are both very similar to each other, both academic, focused, they're right for each other but they have a few hurdles to get over.

How do you feel about Scott [McGregor who plays Mark] leaving the show?

Oh, I'm so sad. He filmed his last scene last week [April 20th]. I feel like I have made a friend for life with Scott. It was goodbye from work but definitely not as friends.

How is Kate going to cope?

She is trying to deal with the break-up and I don't think in her mind or his that they truly believe this is forever. They just need a bit of time to sort out their issues.

Would you like to see Kate find love again?

Yeah I would. I love working with someone really closely, relationship storylines are great to play when the mix is right.

What kind of guy do you think she'd suit?

Ooh, that's an interesting question. There has been speculation about Kate and Kyle getting together. I think they could work, but Kyle would really want to look after Kate and she isn't willing to accept that she needs looking after. She is very independent and that could almost be the end of them before they start, she needs someone more parallel with her - but the writers may have other ideas.

How did you feel about being involved in the royal wedding storyline?

I was very excited to be involved. I got to say something about the royal wedding on Neighbours, how about that!

Will you watch the royal wedding?

I'm sure I will, looking forward to seeing the dress.

How do you think Neighbours will do at the Logies this year?

The competition is pretty tough so hard to say how we will go but it's just nice to be nominated and acknowledged after all these years.

Have you got your dress ready? What's it like?

It's by an amazing designer called Pamela Usanto and I'm so excited about it. It's this beautiful champagne gold, very old Hollywood, all lace and delicate, I just love it.

What kind of a night out is the ceremony?

I don't drink and to be honest I'm not a big party girl so it's partly a work event, but having said that, it's great opportunity to catch up with other people in the industry, and it really is the only event during the year that you can do this.

Is Margot [Robbie who played Donna] coming back for the ceremony? Are you looking forward to seeing her again?

I can't wait to see Margot and she is actually staying with me for the week. She is nominated for a silver Logie so we are all very excited for her.
