If you could choose one character to come back as, who would it be and why?
I know you want me to say someone different but it can only be Paul.
Who would you like to see back from the old cast and why?
Joe Mangel definitely, Henry Ramsay and Clive Gibbons. They were all great characters and worked well with Paul Robinson. Wife wise, Gail for sure, and of course Mrs Mangel.
Do you think Paul should have a new love interest or is he done with love for the time being?
I think he is well and truly done with relationships for the moment since his heart was broken by Rebecca. Paul is the sort of bloke who would say, ‘ok, I’m done with women’ and get on with the other things in his life. I think there should be a bit of time before the next romance and in the meantime, he’ll cause havoc.
What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done to you?
When I was in London, a little old lady came up and slapped me across the arm which took me by surprise. Another time, when Fiona (Corke) and I were doing the show together, some fans sent us an invitation to their ‘bad taste party’ and sent us some crazy stuff to bring, very funny.How do you remember to limp all the time? Easy, I wear a brace now. Before that, I had to remember which was a little distracting.
How does it feel playing one of the most unlikeable characters on the show?
It’s funny because within the street he is unlikeable but I think viewers like to tolerate Paul and want to know his next move will be. I like playing him because he is that classic character that people love to hate.
What do you do in your spare time?
With three small children, I don’t get a lot of time, they keep me on the go. I’d like to say motorbike riding and painting, but generally if I have any free time, it’s spent in the garden, and I’m by no means a gardener, it just has to be done.
I heard you like cars and motorbikes, what’s your favourite?
I have four cars I really like and I’ve had a few motorbikes but it’s whatever I’m riding at the time that's my favourite.
Who do you think will be the next big star to come out of Neighbours?
Margot Robbie definitely. When she first joined the show, I thought she has to head overseas and do something. And not just because she is a stunning looking woman, she has a hidden talent that I don’t think she is even aware of, I’m delighted that Hollywood has discovered it.
What advice do you give to newcomers on the show?
Not a lot! If someone is struggling with nerves, I’ll tell them to remember that everyone is just doing their job, we’re all on the same level, that no one is above or below them, and just do what you have to do.
Who do you admire outside of television and why?
My stepfather. I admire him greatly for his patience, knowledge and wonderful loving demeanour. He came into my life as an unknown quantity and really had to work to win the acceptance of my brothers and I, and we gave him such a hard time in the beginning, and to his credit, he stuck with it. I always say I was lucky enough to have two fathers.
