Ryan reveals Toadies Future

Ryan Moloney has played 'Toadfish' Rebecchi in Neighbours since 1995. He juggles a hectic filming schedule with life as a husband to Alison, and father to daughter Erin and son Jack. His character Toadie, meanwhile, is hoping for his own happily-ever-after with Sonya and Callum. He talks to us about what's in store for his alter-ego as well as his life away from the set...
What scenes have you just filmed in Neighbours?
Troy disappears with Callum for the day, and Toadie is incredibly stressed about it, because he thinks Troy has taken off with him. He can't get in contact with either of them, and it pulls Sonya and Toadie closer together. Only then do we realise that it wasn't Troy's fault at all; it was Callum's. Toadie goes off the deep end and has a go at Troy, and that pushes Toadie and Sonya even further apart.
Is it true that Toadie has more turmoil yet to come?
Well, we are filming the end of the storyline next week. There's a bit of a dramatic end to it all; there has to be.
Is it a happy ending?
Of course it is!
Would you like Toadie and Sonya to marry?
I don't think Toadie should ever get married again. He drove his first wife off a cliff; he then went to get married again and realised she didn't love him the way that he wanted. The third marriage was a sham, so for Toadie, marriage should be left alone.
Eve (who plays Sonya) has said she'd like Toadie and Sonya to have a child. Would you like that?
Yes, maybe, having a baby is a really good storyline - but the reality of it is that once they've gone past one year old, they are hard to work with after that. The idea sounds all right, but I'm hesitant about it.
You started on Neighbours as a child actor. What's it like growing up on screen?
I haven't got anything to compare it to, but it's been full of vast experiences - things most people don't ever get to experience - so I feel very blessed to have done it. On top of that, the crew on Neighbours have been like surrogate parents and given me a fantastic grounding in what it is to be a human being and member of society, so I feel incredibly lucky.
So has the job informed who you are as a person, not just as an actor?
Absolutely, I've spent more time on Neighbours than I have off.
Is it ever difficult to separate your acting life from your real life?
Well, when the actor who plays Callum is hanging out at my home it is, yes!
You have two children now. How old are they?
Erin is four, and Jack is coming up for his third birthday very soon.
What are you like as a dad in real life?
I'm firm but fair.
Has parenthood helped you when acting in scenes with Callum?
The thing about Toadie is he hasn't grown into being a parent. Going from having a baby to a toddler, you get that bit of experience. It's not like all of a sudden you are thrown in to it, whereas with Callum, Toadie is completely out of his depth right away. He doesn't know how to deal with it. He stuffs up quite a lot. He has the best of intentions, but doesn't have the experience to back it up.
How long do you see yourself staying in Neighbours?
I'll stay for the foreseeable future, but I'm studying to be a pilot, heading towards the commercial side of things, so there will be a time when I will be flying round the skies. It gives new definition to Ryan Air!
You ran a marathon, are you very fit?
I like to keep fit and go cycling and swimming, do boxing, yoga and weights. I like to vary it to keep it interesting. I've no plans to run another marathon, though, as I've had a hip operation and the doctors told me I'm not allowed to run any more, unless I want a replacement hip. That's why I'm keeping myself busy with other things.
Is it true you are a Glasgow Rangers supporter?
I've heard that a few times, and I'm not actually. I don't have a football team, but if I did, I have an uncle who would be bitterly disappointed if I wasn't a Sunderland supporter.
You've talked about how you'd love to see Prince William or Prince Harry appear on Neighbours. So, are you interested in the Royal Wedding?
My wife is mad for it, and has already arranged to stay up and watch it with Erin. They are going to have a wedding party. and she's made a crown for Erin so she can be princess as well. We are going to make a royal menu and have a feast. I'll be there too, with some kind of party hat on. You can't have a queen and a princess without a king!

So it looks like it has some spoilers for Toadie Cal and Sonya!

I think Toadie is being really selfish and he needs to realise that its Callums Desicion whether he wants to see Sonya!

Your thoughts?
